Thoughts and Encouraging Words…

"The overwhelming support of the voters at the Diocese of Texas Council for the reunification of our two dioceses is evidence, not only of the careful, thorough work of the leaders of both dioceses, but also, I think, evidence of the presence of the Holy Spirit in this process. Many people, both lay and ordained, are working hard to make this as loving and transparent a reunion as possible, because we believe it strengthens both parties. We ask the prayers of the Church as this process moves forward at the Special Meeting of our Diocesan Convention on June 18."

The Rt. Rev. J. Scott Mayer
Provisional Bishop
Episcopal Church in North Texas

“It is a blessing that the Episcopal Church in North Texas is reuniting once again with the Diocese of Texas.  I pray that the Episcopalians of North Texas will feel peace in their hearts and a quickening of the Holy Spirit as they begin this new chapter of their continuous and faithful ministry!  What a blessing Bishop Scott Mayer has been: pastoring and loving the Episcopalians of North Texas and the Diocese of Northwest Texas together these past years. The Diocese of the Rio Grande - which includes Far West Texas celebrates this reunion!”

The Right Reverend Michael B Hunn
Bishop
The Diocese of the Rio Grande

“The return and regathering of Episcopalians from what was formerly our Diocese of Fort Worth into the Diocese of Texas is a beautiful and life-giving act of mission in the Name of Jesus. Most of the talk I’ve heard around the Church about this wonderful reunion has been about all that the Diocese of Texas has to offer these churches, and that is true. Texas is blessed with abundance in so many ways—people, finances, vision, and geography. And they are also blessed with a generous spirit and a commitment to the Church’s mission. Texas can help extend Christ’s mission in the communities where their new diocesan sisters and brothers live. But I’m also intrigued by all that the “remnant” is bringing to the life and ministries of the Diocese of Texas. They have been through much over many years, and their perseverance, patient endurance, adaptability and commitment to the Lord of our Church will be a source of hope and encouragement to their new diocesan home.”

David M. Reed
Bishop of West Texas

I am excited about and inspired by the proposed reunion of the Diocese of Texas and the Diocese of North Texas (formerly Fort Worth). Changing times and circumstances call for adaptive thinking. We can do more than just struggle to survive. By drawing on our catholicity—our deep unity in the risen Christ—we can pursue Jesus’s mission with greater boldness and vitality. It seems to me that this is just what our friends in the state of Texas are all about with this initiative.”
